Air medical escort is the most accessed international medical transfer service for patients forced to reach centers of excellence abroad or medically repatriated and need medical care during the flight to their destination. Unlike air ambulance services that use dedicated aircraft and intensive care equipment, the air medical escort service involves a CAMTS certified medical professional (doctor/nurse on board) who provides medical assistance to the patient on a regular commercial flight. Medical personnel have extensive knowledge of flight conditions and the granting of treatment on board aircraft and the use of medical equipment on scheduled commercial flights.
Patients can be transported by commercial aircraft (regular flights) by fitting on board the aircraft a system called (on-board stretcher) in which appropriate medical care and treatment can be provided throughout the flight. Medical equipment specially authorized by the FAA and EASA may be used on board the aircraft and complies with all TSA regulations.
Another mode of international medical air transport is the additional seat (extracted), it is intended for people who are forced to travel medium and long distances. The second place is needed for special medical equipment that must be secured during the flight. Due to the transport regulations on the safety of commercial flights, medical escort teams must have advanced knowledge of the provision of care on board both for the patient and in the event of an emergency that may occur in one of the passengers, such incidents being common over medium and long distances. This means of international medical transport is the most widely used and is one of the most financially convenient.
